Automation
Send or generate automatically on an order event, with conditions and a first-time-only or every-time policy, per document type.

Setting it up
- Go to Settings → Automation and pick the Invoice or Estimate tab.
- Switch the automation on.
- Choose the Trigger: for invoices, order created, paid, fulfilled or edited; for estimates, draft order created or edited.
- Choose the Action: send (generate and email) or generate only.
- Choose the policy: first time only (one document per order, the default) or every time (again on each matching event; honours your regenerate rule).
- Optionally add conditions and save.
Conditions
Groups combined with AND or OR, each group a list of rules: sales channel, customer tag, order tag, payment gateway (several, comma-separated), note attribute, and, on Enterprise Plus, order and customer metafields. Operators: equals, contains, exists, missing. Matching is case-sensitive. Up to 20 rules.
Good to know
- Automation respects your plan's document limit: when the limit is reached the run is skipped and recorded in the order's history.
- Draft-order edits fire on every save in Shopify; with "every time" an edit saved while the previous estimate is still being sent is skipped.
- Automatic runs show as "Auto · sent on order paid" in the document's history.
